Become a certified dental assistant in Australia
To become a certified dental assistant in Australia, one must first complete a Certificate III in Dental Assisting from a registered training organization (RTO). This course typically takes around 12 months to complete and covers topics such as infection control, dental radiography, and oral health promotion.
After completing the Certificate III, individuals can then apply to become a member of the Australian Dental Association (ADA) and register with the Dental Board of Australia (DBA). This registration is mandatory for all dental assistants who wish to work in Australia.
To maintain their registration, dental assistants must complete continuing professional development (CPD) activities each year. This ensures that they stay up-to-date with the latest developments in dental technology and techniques.
In addition to the above requirements, some employers may also require dental assistants to hold a current first aid certificate and undergo a police check.
