Become a certified nail tech in Michigan
To become a certified nail technician in Michigan, you must first complete a state-approved nail technician program. These programs can be found at vocational schools, community colleges, and private beauty schools. The program typically takes around 400-600 hours to complete and covers topics such as nail anatomy, sanitation, and safety, nail art, and customer service.
After completing the program, you must pass the Michigan State Board of Cosmetology's written and practical exams. The written exam covers topics such as infection control, safety, and Michigan laws and regulations. The practical exam requires you to demonstrate your skills in performing a manicure, pedicure, and artificial nail application.
Once you pass both exams, you will receive your nail technician license from the Michigan State Board of Cosmetology. This license must be renewed every two years and requires continuing education credits to be completed.
It is important to note that Michigan does not have reciprocity agreements with other states, meaning that if you are licensed in another state, you will need to complete the Michigan nail technician program and pass the state exams to obtain a Michigan license.
