Become a certified nail tech in Florida
To become a certified nail technician in Florida, you must first complete a state-approved nail technician program. These programs can be found at vocational schools, community colleges, and private beauty schools. The program typically takes around 240 hours to complete and covers topics such as nail anatomy, sanitation, and safety, nail art, and customer service.
After completing the program, you must pass the Florida State Board of Cosmetology's written and practical exams. The written exam covers topics such as infection control, safety, and sanitation, while the practical exam assesses your ability to perform various nail services, such as manicures, pedicures, and artificial nail applications.
Once you pass both exams, you can apply for your nail technician license through the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. You will need to provide proof of your education and exam scores, as well as pay a fee.
To maintain your license, you must complete 16 hours of continuing education every two years. This education must be approved by the Florida Board of Cosmetology and cover topics such as sanitation, safety, and new nail techniques.
