Awareness Circle
Awareness Circle is a team-building activity for groups of 5 or more that uses assessments to improve understanding among team members. Participants learn about their own and each other’s traits and backgrounds, fostering self-awareness and empathy. The game includes non-verbal and verbal communication exercises that strengthen connections and respect within the team, leading to better collaboration and performance.
How to Play the Awareness Circle
Stand in a circle, observe and understand team diversity without speaking.
To begin playing Awareness Circle, gather your team and have them stand in a circle. Distribute the pre-prepared behavioral, personality, and culture assessments to each participant. These assessments will help individuals gain insight into their own traits and those of their teammates. Explain that these assessments are a vital part of the game, as they will serve as a foundation for understanding and appreciating the diversity within the team. Encourage everyone to answer honestly and thoughtfully.
Sharing Insights
Once the assessments are completed, have each participant take a moment to review their results. Without yet discussing them verbally, direct everyone to silently observe and reflect on their own and others' non-verbal cues, such as body language and facial expressions. This initial period of silent observation allows team members to become more attuned to the subtle dynamics at play within the group, fostering a deeper sense of awareness and empathy.
Non-Verbal Communication Exercise
Next, engage the team in a non-verbal communication exercise. Ask participants to use gestures, facial expressions, and movements to convey the key aspects of their assessment results. For example, someone who scored high in empathy might extend a hand in a comforting gesture, while someone who identified as a strong leader might stand tall and make confident eye contact. This exercise serves to highlight the significance of non-verbal communication and encourages team members to express themselves without words.

This awareness promotes a culture of openness and mutual respect, which are essential for cohesive teamwork.
The Growth Mindset assessment encourages team members to adopt a mindset focused on learning and development. By identifying areas where individuals may have fixed mindsets, the team can work together to cultivate a culture of continuous improvement and resilience. This shared commitment to growth enhances the team's ability to adapt to challenges and innovate collaboratively.
Cognitive styles play a crucial role in how team members process information and solve problems.
